Spa City GOP picks candidates for 2019
Committee endorses incumbents, has no one entered in mayoral race
The city’s Republican Committee endorsed its slate of candidates for November election.
Chair Matthew Hogan said Commissioner of Public Works Anthony “Skip” Scirocco and Supervisor Matthew Veitch, incumbents, were endorsed Tuesday night along with Robin Dalton for public safety commissioner and Stephen Mittler for Saratoga County supervisor.
“We expect 2019 to be a good year for the city of Saratoga Springs Republican Committee,” Hogan said. “We have a very strong slate of qualified and experienced candidates who will work hard and deliver results for the people of our city.”
Hogan said the committee had no candidates to oppose Democratic incumbents Mayor Meg Kelly, Commissioner of Finance Michele Madigan and Commissioner of Accounts John Franck, meaning that all three would sweep into office without a challenge.
Democrats made their picks on Saturday. In addition to the incumbents, the city’s Democratic Committee selected current Supervisor Tara Gaston as well as Druthers Brewing Co. co-owner Dillon Moran to challenge Scirocco, Chair Courtney Deleonardis said.
Two Democrats, Eileen Finneran and Kendall Hicks, will likely head to a primary on June 25 for the public safety commissioner seat, Deleonardis said.
Current Commissioner Peter Martin will resign from office at the end of his term.
