IT’S AN HONOR
The Greene County Highway Department received a 2018 Project of the Year award in the Historical Restoration/preservation Category from the American Public Works Association Capital Branch for the rehabilitation of the Catskill Mountain Railroad Bridge (Black Bridge) over Catskill Creek. The Locally Administered Federal Aid project — which preserved and rehabilitated the existing 440-foot-long, fourspan structure to bring it up to current standards and installed a new deck system for pedestrians and bicyclists — was initiated by the Village of Catskill and Greene County, due to the bridge’s historical significance and its support for utilities that cross the Catskill Creek. Originally constructed in 1882, the bridge is one of the last remaining usable pieces of the Catskill Mountain Railway. Creighton Manning Engineering LLP designed the $2.8 million project, and Harrison & Burrowes Bridge Constructors Inc. was the contractor.
