Investigation follows after-prom accident
Warren County authorities are trying to learn who supplied the alcohol consumed at an after-prom party that ended when a Shenendehowa student fell from a balcony early Sunday and suffered facial fractures when he landed on a sidewalk.
The 17-year-old was fooling around near the railing of the balcony at a rented home on Harrington Hill Road in Warrensburg when he lost his balance and fell about 14 feet, Sheriff’s Lt. Steven Stockdale said.
Deputies were summoned to the home and the teenager was taken to the hospital, Stockdale said. Deputies learned it had been rented by Shenendehowa High School students and used for an after-party following Saturday’s prom at the Clifton Park school, he said.
“There were about 20 there when we arrived,” Stockdale said. “We were told many additional had left when they were told 911 was activated.”
Stockdale said they found alcohol and believed that it was being consumed by underage drinkers.
Shenendehowa spokeswoman Kelly Defeciani said the district was aware of the incident and would cooperate with any investigation. She declined to discuss the incident and noted it happened on private property.
