Aquino breaks NL rookie record

Despite milestone, Reds lose to Miami

Aristides Aquino broke the National League rookie record for homers in a month with his 14th in August, but Harold Ramirez homered leading off the 12th inning for the Miami Marlins, who beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 Thursday night to avert a four-game sweep.

Aquino hit a two-run homer in the first for Cincinnati, and his two-out RBI single in the eighth tied it at 3.

Miami’s Jon Berti, Austin Dean and Starlin Castro hit solo home runs off Alex Wood, who has allowed 10 homers in 352/3 innings this season. Ramirez pulled a 1-1 pitch for his third career walk-off RBI against closer Raisel Iglesias (2-10).

Rays 9, Astros 8: Ji-man Choi put Tampa Bay ahead with a tworun double in the seventh, Travis d’arnaud homered and drove in four, and the Rays beat Houston to avoid a three-game sweep. Twins 10, White Sox 5: Jake Cave homered twice, C.J. Cron went deep and surging Minnesota set a major league record with 139 home runs on the road. A’s 9, Royals 8: Jurickson Profar homered and drove in three runs, Seth Brown added two RBIS and Oakland held off Kansas City.

Indians 2, Tigers 0: Mike Clevinger struck out 10 in eight sparkling innings, and Francisco Lindor homered to lift Cleveland. Mariners 5, Rangers 3: Seattle broke a 3-3 tie on Austin Nola’s sacrifice fly and Omar Narvaez’s RBI single in the top of the ninth inning.
