FBI: Clifton Park man tried to coerce minor
ALBANY — A 41-year-old Clifton Park man was arrested Tuesday after he tried to coerce a 14-year-old girl into “various sexual acts” with him, federal authorities said Thursday.
In a case investigated by the FBI, Kevin Nugent was charged with attempted enticement and coercion of a minor into committing criminal sex acts, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He was arraigned Wednesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Christian F. Hummel and ordered detained pending trial.
Authorities say Nugent attempted to entice and coerce a minor, whom he believed to be a 14-year-old girl, to engage in sex acts with him.
The charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, a maximum sentence of life in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of post-imprisonment supervised release of at least five years and up to life. If convicted, Nugent would be required to register as a sex offender.
