Marvel’s universe getting more inclusive

“The Eternals” to feature married, gay character

-

It’s Marvel-us news for diversity.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to break new ground again. After the predominantly black cast of “Black Panther,” Brie Larson as “Captain Marvel,” and the Afrolatino Miles Morales main character in “Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse,” which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, the universe is getting even more inclusive.

Kevin Feige, the Marvel Studios president confirmed to “Good Morning America” that the upcoming star-studded film “The Eternals” will feature the studio’s first gay character.

“He’s married. He’s got a family. And that is just part of who he is,” he said.

The announcement followed Disney’s presentation at the D23 Expo in California, when Marvel announced more characters that would join “The Eternals” gang, an immortal alien race sent to Earth by the Celestials — who first appeared in “Guardians of the Galaxy” — to protect humanity from the Deviants.

Feige didn’t specify which character will have the distinct honor of breaking with a centuries-old tradition and become the first LGBTQ character featured in the MCU. Since the main lineup of the Eternals in the comic doesn’t feature an openly LGBTQ character, fans will have to wait.

“The Eternals” hits theaters on Nov. 6, 2020.

The ensemble cast includes Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry and Gemma Chan.
