Wilkin’s picks are winners at finish
Tim Wilkin picked the most winners in the Times Union’s Green Sheet this summer, correctly nabbing 112 races at the Saratoga meet. This is the second straight year that Wilkin was the top selector for the newspaper.
Second place went to Capital OTB, which used five handicappers during the season. Seth Merrow, Sully Crotty, Mike Callahan, Brian Nadeau and John Signor combined to pick 107 winners to finish in second place.
Anthony Stabile held on to third place as he had 93 wins. The Guest Handicappers — a different person from the community or the horse racing world each day — ended with 89 wins. The top single day performance by a handicapper during the season was West Point Thoroughbred CEO and president Terry Finley, who picked seven winners when it was his turn to be in the Guest slot.
Wilkin picked six winners four times during the meet.
Wilkin also had the best ROI (return on investment on $2 pick for each top pick). His winners combined to pay out $697.20. OTB was second with $665.50, the Guests were third with $571.50 and Stabile brought up the rear with $569.60.
The Times Union and Capital OTB also had a head-to-head battle each day and the newspaper came out on top. Going into the final day of racing, the TU and OTB each had won 14 times during the competition with 10 ties.
On the final day, Wilkin picked three winners while OTB’S Nadeau got shut out to give the TU a 15-14-10 win in that competition.
