Three showdowns on the horizon

Six squads remain unbeaten heading into Week 6 slate

Nine teams entered Week 5 play undefeated, yet only six squads improved to 5- 0 as Averill Park

( Class A), Cambridge/ Salem ( Class C) and Warrensbur­g ( Class D) suffered losses.

None of the remaining unbeatens are set to collide this week.

There are a trio of contests Friday pitting a pair of 4- 1 teams against each other: CBA at Shenendeho­wa ( A A), Averill Park at Amsterdam ( A) and Chatham at Warrensbur­g ( D).

CLASS AA

■ 1. Shaker ( 5- 0, Last week, No. 1): The Blue Bison withstood committing 13 penalties for 135 yards and posted a 21- 7 road victory at Ballston Spa.

■ 2. Shenendeho­wa ( 4- 1, LW No. 2): The Plainsmen played Guilderlan­d on even terms in the first half, but senior standout Billy Beach scored a trio of touchdowns in the third quarter to propel the Plainsmen to a 35- 13

triumph over the Dutchmen.

■ 3. Guilderlan­d ( 3- 2, LW No. 3): The Dutchmen, limited to 142 yards of offense in a Week 4 loss against Shenendeho­wa, travel to take on Saratoga on Friday.

■ 4. Bethlehem ( 3- 2, LW No. 4): Nick Gicewicz rushed for 172 yards and two touchdowns to help g uide the Eagles to a 30- 0 victor y against Colonie.

■ 5. CBA ( 4- 1, LW No. 5): The Brothers denied a two- point conversion attempt with 2: 13 remaining and held on to produce a 20- 19 decision over Saratoga.

CLASS A

■ 1. Queensbury ( 5- 0, LW No. 1): The ‘ Season of Rodriguez’ continued for the Spartans as junior running back Jason Rodriguez rushed for 196 yards and four touchdowns in the first half of a 52- 15 win over Gloversvil­le.

■ 2. Troy ( 4- 1, LW No. 2): Xavier Leigh delivered his third and fourth touchdowns of the game in the fourth quarter to lift the Flying Horses to a 34- 20 triumph at Averill Park.

■ 3. Averill Park ( 4- 1, LW No. 3): The Warriors can secure no worse than the No. 2 seed from the Capital Division with a victor y at Amsterdam on Friday.

■ 4. Ballston Spa ( 3- 2, LW No. 4): The Scotties, ranked No. 23 in the state, dive back into Grasso Division action Friday when they entertain Scotia.

■ 5. Burnt Hills ( 4- 1, LW No. 1): Caeden Lapietro rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns, plus added an intercepti­on on defense, in leading the Spartans to a 49- 6 victor y over Mohonasen.

■ Teams to watch: Amsterdam ( 41), La Salle ( 3- 2)

CLASS B

■ 1. Glens Falls ( 5- 0, LW No. 1): The Indians, the state’s top- ranked squad, generated 36 points in the opening quarter and cruised to a 5014 decision over Johnstown.

■ 2. Holy Trinity ( 5- 0, LW No. 2): Joe Tortello completed 14 of 17 passes for 342 yards and f ive touchdowns as the Pride posted a 49- 28 win against Cambridge/ Salem.

■ 3. Schuylervi­lle ( 4- 1, LW No. 3): Owen Sherman completed two passes, both for touchdowns, in helping the Black Horses produce a 42- 0 win at Lansingbur­gh.

■ 4. Cobleskill ( 3- 2, LW No. 4): The Bulldogs play a second straight contest outside Reinfurt Division competitio­n when they play host to Schuyler ville on Friday.

■ 5. Schalmont ( 3- 2, LW No. 5): The Sabres begin a three- game stretch of Reinfurt Division contests to conclude reg ular- season play Friday at home against Ichabod Crane.

CLASS C

■ 1. Cambridge/ Salem ( 4- 1, LW No. 1): Calvin Schneider rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns, but the Indians suffered a 49- 28 loss against Holy Trinity.

■ 2. Stillwater ( 5- 0, LW No. 2): The Warriors, ranked No. 4 in the state, remained undefeated by earning a 25- 0 victor y at Warrensbur­g.

■ 3. Fonda ( 5- 0, LW No. 3): John Mancini connected on 13 of 16 passes for 189 yards and three touchdowns and also added a 63- yard touchdown run as the Braves blanked Helderberg Valley 34- 0.

■ 4. Greenwich ( 4- 1, LW No. 4): Jesse Kuzmich tossed a pair of touchdown passes in the first quarter and the Witches’ defense made that lead hold up in a 14- 0 triumph over Mechanicvi­lle.

■ 5. Watervliet ( 3- 2, LW not rated): The Cannoneers slot back into the fifth spot after limiting Voorheesvi­lle’s offense to 58 yards for an impressive 22- 0 road victor y over the Blackbirds.

CLASS D

■ 1. Warrensbur­g ( 4- 1, LW No. 1): The Burghers are bringing in the portable lights Friday for a showdown for the top rung in the Class D hierarchy against Chatham.

■ 2. Chatham ( 4- 1, LW No. 2):

The Panthers produced 22 points in the fourth quarter, including two touchdown runs from Casey Sitzer, to secure a 28- 14 verdict over Whitehall.

■ 3. Whitehall ( 3- 2, LW No. 3): The Railroader­s attempt to halt a two- game losing streak when they take on Cambridge/ Salem.

■ 4. Corinth/ Fort Edward ( 3- 2, LW No. 4): Brody Sullivan went 11for- 13 passing for 158 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Warhawks to a 57- 30 victor y over Cohoes.

■ 5. Helderberg Valley ( 0- 5, LW No. 5): A pair of winless squads collide Saturday when Helderberg Valley hits the road for a matchup at Cohoes.
