U. S. Rep. Elise Stefanik has already amassed a mighty re- election war chest, with Democrat Tedra Cobb trailing significantly in third- quarter fundraising. From July to September, Stefanik, R- Schuylerville, had the strongest off- year financial and political support of any candidate in district history, her campaign said.

The third- term lawmaker raised more than $ 450,000 in the third quarter and has almost $ 1.3 million in campaign cash on hand.

“This record level of support reflects my independent record of always putting the North Country first, and of reaching across the aisle to deliver real results for our district,” Stefanik said. “I look forward to continuing to build our tremendous grassroots network of volunteers and supporters, and to winning in 2020.”

Meanwhile, Cobb, a Canton resident, will enter the fourth quarter with less than half the cash in Stefanik’s campaign coffers. Cobb hauled in more than $ 250,000 in quarter three, her campaign said Monday. She closed the quarter with more than $ 500,000 cash on hand.

“I am proud of the support we have received,” Cobb said. “People are tired of the gridlock in Washington, and Congresswoman Stefanik is part of the problem.”

Cobb also challenged Stefanik in 2018, but lost by nearly 14 percentage points. Cobb served two terms on the St. Lawrence County Legislature 16 years ago. She founded the St. Lawrence Health Initiative, a community health services notforprofit. Stefanik has put a premium on fundraising by collecting campaign cash for other GOP women through her platform E- PAC, in addition to raising for herself. E- PAC raised more than $ 95,000 for the quarter for a total of almost $ 500,000 raised since its re- launch in January, Stefanik’s campaign said. E- PAC has contributed $ 125,000 to 24 women, including both Republican candidates and congressional incumbents.

Stefanik’s fundraising prowess has boosted her profile among Republican leaders. She is one of the few Republican women in the House and one of the youngest members of Congress overall.
