Kubat leads way for Coblesk ill
Sophomore is piling up awards in first month of the season
Cobleskill sophomore Ashley Kubat is reaping the rewards for her big start with the Fighting Tigers’ women’s cross countr y team.
Kubat, from Sloansville and a Cobleskill- Richmondville High graduate, was named ECAC Division III North Region Rookie of the Month for September on Oct. 3. She was named North Eastern Athletic Conference Runner of the Week in three of the first four weeks of the season, the latest on Sept. 24. And she’s been the top finisher for Cobleskill in each of the school’s meets this fall.
Last Saturday, Kubat finished ninth out of 181 runners at the Mount Saint Mary Knight Invitational in Newburgh with a 6,000- meter ( 3.73- mile) time of 25 minutes, 53 seconds.
Rabideau finishes first
College of Saint Rose senior Lauren Rabideau finished first at the Mount Saint Mary Knight Invitational last Saturday. Rabideau, from Charlton and a Burnt Hills- Ballston Lake High graduate, posted a 6k time of 24: 39.1 to help the Golden Knights finish fourth out of 23 teams. It was her first colleg iate cross countr y title. Her personal best at 6k came when she finished 26th at the Northeast- 10 Conference Championships with a time of 23: 13.4 last November.
Flower leads Sage
Sophomore Kerr y Flower of Schenectady ( Schalmont High) finished third to help the Sage women’s cross countr y team finish third out of 23 teams at the Knight Invitational last Saturday in Newburgh. She covered the 6k course in 25: 06.4 to lead the Gators. Freshman Evelyn Gile of Ballston Lake ( Shenendehowa High) finished 19th ( 26: 38.2), sophomore Kristin Mcalonen of Burnt Hills ( Burnt HillsBallston Lake High) was 21st ( 26: 56.2) and senior captain Amanda Jones of West Sand Lake ( Columbia High) was 23rd ( 27: 01.7).
Dunigan helping Saints
Sophomore Maddy Dunigan, a 6- foot- 2 middle blocker from Averill Park and an Averill Park High graduate, leads the Siena women’s volleyball team with 51 blocks, including 13 solo blocks. She also has 87 kills and has scored 120 points. The Saints are 7- 8 overall and 2- 3 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference after a 3- 0 leag ue loss to Marist last Friday in Poughkeepsie. Dunigan had a team- high six blocks with five kills in the match.
Hat trick for Ricci
Sophomore Natalie Ricci scored all three goals as the Sage women’s soccer team nipped Alfred 3- 2 in an Empire 8 Conference game last Saturday in Alfred to lif t the Gators to 6- 4 overall and 2- 1 in leag ue play. Ricci, from Cohoes and a Cohoes High graduate, leads the team with seven goals and f ive assists for 19 points. Freshman goalkeeper Kallan Schertzer of Clifton Park ( Shenendehowa High) had nine saves in the game and has given up 12 goals with 78 saves and four shutouts on the season.
Duo key for Union soccer
Sophomores Fiona Zimmerman and Hannah Raymond, both from Niskay una and Niskay una High graduates, have game- winning goals for the Union women’s soccer team. Zimmerman’s came in a 1- 0 Liberty Leag ue overtime victor y over RPI last Saturday in Schenectady to lif t the Dutchwomen to 5- 4 overall and 1- 2 in leag ue play. Raymond scored the only goal in a two- overtime, nonleag ue victor y over Trinity on Sept. 7 in Schenectady.
Big goal for Keith
Senior Noah Keith scored in overtime to give the 3- 5 Albany Pharmacy men’s soccer team a 3- 2 victor y over Bryant & Stratton- Albany on Sept. 29 in Albany. Keith, from Rotterdam and a CBA graduate, has four goals this season and three of them have been game winners. Junior Zack Lanoue of Troy ( Averill Park High) chipped in with a goal and an assist while sophomore Alex Bleau of Castleton ( Maple Hill High) had the Panthers’ other goal against Bryant & Stratton.
A first for Haas
Sophomore defender Melissa Haas scored her first goal of the season to help the Skidmore women’s soccer team turn back Vassar 3- 1 in a Liberty League contest last Saturday in Saratoga Springs. She had three goals as a freshman. Haas, from Clifton Park and a Shenendehowa High graduate, has also helped the Thoroughbreds limit foes to 14 goals with two shutouts. Skidmore is 6- 2- 2 overall and 1- 2- 0 in league play.
