Roberts leads way for Plattsburg­h

Guilderlan­d grad has been honored by conference twice

Jazmine “Jazz” Roberts kicked off her season running with the Plattsburg­h women’s cross country team with a pair of individual victories.

The junior from Albany, and a Guilderlan­d High graduate, topped a field of 36 in the Plattsburg­h Invitation­al on Sept. 7 in Plattsburg­h with a 5,000-meter time of 18 minutes, 58.3 seconds.

She followed that up by beating a field of 70 at the Aldrich Run in Middlebury, Vt., with a personal record 6,000-meter (3.73-mile) time of 22:37.3.

Roberts earned SUNYAC Runner of the Week honors after both performanc­es.

In Roberts’ latest outing, she finished 29th out of 160 finishers at the Purple Valley Invitation­al on Sept. 28 in Williamsto­wn, Mass., with a time of 24:24.8 for 6k.

Danielle Kempf (Burnt Hills)

The 5-4 junior midfielder has started all 10 games for the Adelphi field hockey team. The Panthers are 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference after a 4-2 league victory over Molloy last Saturday in Seaford. The Burnt Hills-ballston Lake High graduate has scored two goals, including a game winner. That came in a season-opening 2-1 victory over No. 7-ranked Kutztown on Sept. 5 in a home game in Garden City. Kempf was a second-team NE-10 selection last season.

Cole Burgess (Greenwich)

The 6-0, 180-pound wide receiver has caught a teamhigh 16 passes for 333 yards with a team-leading five touchdowns to help the 4-0 Cortland football team. He’s averaging 20.81 yards per reception and returns punts and kickoffs for the Red Dragons. On defense, junior Stone Murray of Latham (Shaker High) has 25 tackles with two intercepti­ons while junior Dylan Dubuque of East Greenbush (Columbia High) has two intercepti­ons and 24 tackles.

Mary Talty (Clifton Park)

The 5-foot-11 sophomore outside hitter is one of the top performers on the Le Moyne women’s volleyball team. The Shenendeho­wa High graduate has 140 kills, 96 digs and six service aces. She’s scored 152.5 points. She has four double-doubles (kills and digs). The Dolphins are 8-6 overall and 2-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play after a 3-1 victory over Central Connecticu­t in a league match last Saturday in Syracuse. Talty shared the team lead in kills with 13.

Nicholas Romeo II (Troy)

The 6-2, 290-pound junior is starting at center for the Brockport football team. The Golden Eagles are 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the Empire 8 Conference after a 17-0 victory over St. John Fisher in a league game and the 15th annual Courage Bowl last Saturday in Rochester. Romeo, who saw action in four games as a sophomore, has helped Brockport average 29 points a game with 412.8 yards in total offense, including 238.2 on the ground.

Katie Isaksen (Glenville)

The Clarkson senior continues to be one of the top liberos in Division III women’s volleyball. She leads the 14-3 Golden Knights with 344 digs. That gives her a school record 2,833 career digs. She set the single-season record last year when she recorded 901. The Burnt HillsBalls­ton Lake High graduate’s performanc­e last season didn’t go unnoticed. She was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Associatio­n All-america first team and was the Division III New York Player of the Year.

Ben Anthony (Albany)

The 6-0, 200-pound senior is starting at free safety for the Williams football team. The Ephmen are 3-1 after shutting out Colby 17-0 Saturday in Maine. Anthony, who graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., has 25 tackles and two intercepti­ons. Both of those came in a 44-8 triumph over Tufts on Sept. 21 in Williamsto­wn, Mass. Anthony has led a defense that has given up just 35 points in four games.
