Johansson scores 1:30 into OT to lift Buffalo to another victory

Marcus Johansson scored 1:30 into overtime, leading the Buffalo Sabres to a 5-4 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night.

Jack Eichel scored twice and added two assists, and the Sabres improved to 3-0-1, the team’s best star t since opening the 2009-10 season 4-0-1. Rookie Victor Olofsson matched an NHL record in becoming the fourth NHL player to score his first six career goals on the power play in a game Buffalo converted two of five opportunit­ies.

Jeff Skinner also scored and defenseman Rasmus Dahlin had two assists, while Carter Hutton stopped 23 shots and improved to 3-0.

Former Union College star Keith Kinkaid stopped 34 shots for Montreal. Flyers 4, Devils 0: Carter Hart stopped 25 shots for his first career shutout to lift Philadelph­ia over new Jersey. ivan Provorov scored for the flyers, and so did Kevin Hayes, Sean Couturier and travis Konency as part of a three-goal third period in their home opener. the flyers played for the first time since they beat the Chicago Blackhawks last week in Prague as part of the nhl’s Global Series. Note: the Pittsburgh Penguins placed forward Alex Galchenyuk on injured reserve after he aggravated an undisclose­d injury that limited him during the preseason. Galchenyuk joins center evgeni malkin and forward Bryan rust and nick Bjugstad on ir for the Penguins, who are off to a 1-2-0 start. Galchenyuk, acquired in an offseason trade with Arizona, has two assists in three games. Pittsburgh forward Patric Hornqvist sat out practice on Wednesday. Hornqvist left a 4-1 loss to Winnipeg on tuesday night after getting hit by a shot off the stick of teammate Kris Letang. the Penguins recalled forward Adam Johnson from Wilkes-barre/ Scranton of the AHL.
