Brandow’s overtime goal advances Mayf ield

Panthers get past tough Doane Stuart in 2nd OT

Colby Brandow scored a breakaway goal five minutes into the second overtime as No. 10 Mayfield edged No. 7 Doane Stuart 3-2 in a first-round boys’ soccer Section II Class C Tournament game in Troy.

Gael Pena-reyes scored the tying goal that forced overtime off a corner kick that the Panthers’ defense failed to clear.

Mayfield’s Britain Goodemote scored on a penalty kick midway though the first half to open the scoring. Joey Dipreta tied the game in the final minute of the first half with a left-footed onetimer to the top corner of the net.

Mayfield reclaimed the lead early in the second half when Goodemote scored his second goal off a penalty kick.

More boys’ soccer: eli Charlebois scored two goals and Aidan Percey made two saves to lead no. 3 maple Hill to a 2-0 win over no. 14 fort Plain in another Class C tournament game. Charlebois netted his first goal late in the first half when he split three defenders and beat fort Plain goaltender robert Jordan. He added an insurance goal midway through the second half when he pounced on a rebound and did a 180 before slotting the shot into the net. maple Hill improved to 15-1-1. .... miles ednie scored two goals in the second half as tamarac rallied for a 4-1 win over Glens falls in a Class B firstround sectional game. the Bengals trailed 1-0 at the half, but ednie gave them the lead with 16 minutes left. dylan Briccetti and rocco dicarlo added insurance goals.

Girls’ soccer: Quincy Hytko scored with 7:41 left in the second overtime off a throw-in from olivia Huneau to give no. 4 Cohoes a 2-1 win over no. 13 Greenwich in the Class C quarterfin­als. Caileigh miron slipped a shot just inside the far post midway through the first half to give the tigers the early lead. tess merrill tied the game off a through ball from faith ingber 10 minutes later. Andraya Hunt made 22 saves for the tigers (11-5-1) while faith Hewitt made 21 stops for the Witches (9-7-1). ... Saratoga Catholic defeated Heatly 3-1 in Class d when Alexa Hercamp scored twice in the second half.
