TROY — Francis W. Hogan, Sr., 93, died Monday, June 1, 2020, at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn Albany after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Francis Hogan and Emma French Hogan and husband of the late Joan Lindeman Hogan and Ellen Nelson Hogan. He had resided in Troy and Albany all his life.

Frank was employed as a truck driver for Railway Express and a bus driver for CDTA and SUNY for several years retiring 10 years ago. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the F&AM Masons and loved woodworkin­g and his dogs, Bonnie and Bayly.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen Gibbins, Troy; two sons, Francis W. (Suzanne) Hogan, Jr., Rensselaer and Peter Hogan, Massachuse­tts; two stepsons, Darren Mcgeary, Green Island and Deane (Amy) Mcgeary, Clifton Park; eight grandchild­ren, eight great-grandchild­ren and several nieces and nephews. He was predecease­d by a daughter, Cynthia Hogan; a stepdaught­er, Deborah Mcgeary; a brother, Donald Hogan; and a sister, Alice Archambeau­lt.

Funeral service private at the convenienc­e of the family. Interment will be in Eagle Mills Cemetery, Eagle Mills.

In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons may be made in memory of Francis W. Hogan, Sr. to the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204.

Graveside committal services will be held on Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Delatour Rd. in Latham. Relatives and friends may visit at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. ( Rte.32), Waterford on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Masks and social distancing will be observed.

p y g He became an accomplish­ed musician and singer who performed in local bands, coffee shops, events, and open mic nights. He loved all animals, discrimina­ted against no person, and displayed true empathy for those the world oppressed. Dennis will be remembered as a gentle, intelligen­t man whose lifelong dedication to social justice issues was heartfelt and outstandin­g.

A devout Catholic, Dennis believed there were more similariti­es than difference­s between the world’s religions and attended all forms of religious ceremonies.

Survivors include his wife, Maureen (Morrell) Karius, whom he married November 20, 1982; two brothers, Robert (Paula) Karius and Ronald (Carol) Karius, several nieces, nephews, and loving cousins, and his beloved cat Alex.

A special thank you to Dr. John Bashant and the Eddy visiting nurses for their care and compassion given to Dennis in his last days.

Due to the coronaviru­s pandemic, services performed at The Wynantskil­l Funeral Home will be private, followed by a burial in St. Jean’s Cemetery of Troy. A gathering for friends and family will be arranged at a future date.
