Tiz the Law is heading home. The 3-year-old colt, who is considered by many to be the horse to beat in the Grade I, $1 million Belmont Stakes later this month, is scheduled to arrive at trainer Barclay Tagg’s Belmont Park barn on Tuesday.

Tiz the Law left the Palm Meadows Training Center in Boynton Beach, Fla., on Monday morning and began his 1,200-plus mile van ride. This came the day after he had his final work in the Sunshine State. On Sunday, Tiz the Law went four furlongs in a time of 48.20 seconds, the fifth-fastest of 40 works at the distance.

That was the eighth work the Newyork-bred son of Constitution has had since winning the Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park on March 28.

Tiz the Law has been in Florida since December. The extended stay came about because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Everything is perfect,” Jack Knowlton, the managing partner of Sackatoga Stable, which owns Tiz the Law, said Monday.

Once he arrives at Belmont Park, Tiz the Law is expected to have two workouts on his home track before starting in the Belmont Stakes on June 20. The Belmont, traditionally the third leg of the Triple Crown and run at 11/2 miles, is leading off the series this year and will be run at 11/8 miles. Because of the pandemic, the Kentucky Derby, normally the first leg of the Triple Crown, will now be run on Sept. 5.

The Preakness, the normal second leg of the series, is scheduled to be run in Baltimore on Oct. 3.

Tiz the Law has already shown an affinity for Belmont as won the Grade I Champagne there on Oct. 5. The horse has won four of five career starts. His only loss came in the Grade II Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs on Nov. 30 when he finished third on a sloppy track.
