SUNY Poly prof receives $625,000

SUNY Polytechni­c Institute professor Woongje Sung was awarded $625,000 from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Manufactur­ing Office for research into how to reduce the costs of making silicon carbide-based power electronic­s devices. The research is being done in partnershi­p with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Silicon carbide switches are used in electric cars, wind turbines, airplanes and other devices.
