Senior day care service closes

Eddy Daybreak program had served about 100 clients before pandemic

The Eddy Daybreak adult care program closed last Monday, citing factors including COVID -19 limitations and financial challenges, according to a letter sent to families by the program’s executive director.

The center, which has been in operation for 20 years, offered day programs for adults living at home who due to illness, injury, or age needed a safe daytime environment. It is affiliated with St. Peter’s Health Partners.

Adults received hot meals, transportation, and caregiving services while participating in recreational and educational activities. Medical services were also offered at some locations.

In March, Eddy Daybreak closed all of its day programs, which in total served about 100 seniors. The programs were located in Troy, Clifton Park, Cohoes, and Rensselaer. Families were hopeful they would reopen at some point during the pandemic. Now all day programs are closed permanently. Eddy Senior Care programs, located in Latham and Rotterdam, are open and will offer similar services.

“At this point, rather than keep the participants and staff in continued limbo, we thought the best thing to do is to let them move forward with making permanent plans regarding their next steps and other options,” Rob Puglisi, communications director for The Eddy, wrote in an email.

“We’re working with the seniors and their families to see if we can enroll them in our Eddy Seniorcare programs ... and

we’ve successfully found positions within St. Peter’s Health Partners for most of the 31 employees who worked for our Daybreak programs.”
