BYU scores upset victory
Cougars blow lead of 17 points, rally to top San Diego St.
Alex Barcello scored 22 points and Brandon Averette hit a huge 3-pointer with 51 seconds left for BYU, which blew a 17point lead before beating No. 18 San Diego State 72-62 on Friday despite Matt Mitchell’s careerhigh 35 points.
Mitchell was remarkable in scoring 26 points in the second half. He spurred a 14-0 run with three 3-pointers and then had a steal and dunk that tied it at 61.
But BYU (7-2) regained control and handed San Diego State (5-1) its first loss. The Aztecs won their first 26 games last season.

Tennessee 103, Tennessee Tech 49:
Jaden Springer scored 21 points to lead No. 10 Tennessee over Tennessee Tech. The 6-foot-4 freshman also had six rebounds and six assists and was one of six Volunteers (4-0) in double figures. The Golden Eagles (0-8) got a team-high 13 points from Jr. Clay.
Women
Arizona 62, Colorado 59: Aari Mcdonald overcame poor shooting in the first half with 8-for-8 sniping from the line in the fourth quarter and finished with 24 points as No. 6 Arizona rallied to beat Colorado.
Baylor 136, Northwestern State 43: Nalyssa Smith matched a career high with 30 points on 12-for-15 shooting to lead six players scoring in double figures for No. 7 Baylor, extending the Lady Bears’ home winning streak to 60.
Mississippi State 79, Southern 55:
Jessika Carter had her second double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds to help No. 13 Mississippi State beat Southern. Rickea Jackson added 15 points for the Bulldogs (4-1).
Texas 101, Drake 80: Joanne Allen-taylor had 23 points and four others scored in double digits to lead No. 22 Texas.
Note: Florida forward Keyontae Johnson thanked everyone for their support in a video message Friday, his first public appearance since collapsing on the court at Florida State nearly a week ago. Johnson released a 25-second video on Twitter and Instagram.
