Woman in her 90s dies; 56 positive tests noted in Albany County
The number of new coronavirus cases in Albany County dropped by nearly half overnight but another person died from the virus.
Albany County Executive Dan Mccoy on Monday said 56 new cases were reported since Sunday, when officials reported 101 new cases from the previous day.
The victim was a woman in her 90s. The virus is blamed in the deaths of 342 people.
The county’s five-day average for new cases dropped to 79.6 from 85.8 on Sunday.
Since the spring, 19,642 people have been diagnosed with the virus.
“My deepest sympathy to the latest family that has lost a loved one to COVID -19. Each day, more people are vaccinated and we move one step closer to developing herd immunity,” said County Executive Mccoy. “I ask everyone to continue to be patient, follow the guidelines and get vaccinated when it is your turn.”
One more person has been hospitalized with the virus and 65 residents are currently hospitalized, including 12 in the intensive care unit.
Rensselaer County cases continue to drop
Rensselaer County recorded 25 new coronavirus cases overnight, including a 7-year-old girl from Schaghticoke, officials said Monday.
That is the lowest number of cases the county has reported in several months.
Officials also said recoveries are up and hospitalizations are decreasing.
Nineteen county residents are hospitalized, with three in intensive care. The county cleared 112 recent cases as recovered.
