Cadets hold off Warriors 4-2

Albany Academy’s Foley-stevenson, Moo score late in victory

Jackson Foley-stevenson and Sa Kler Moo scored late goals to spark Albany Academy to a 4-2 win over Mohonasen in a boys’ soccer game on a sunny and warm day in Albany.

The Mighty Warriors kept pace with the Cadets for 63 minutes, but Foley-stevenson broke a 2-2 tie on a penalty kick. Moo scored an insurance goal six minutes later.

Bryce Henkel, a star swimmer for Albany Academy, scored first off an assist from Baltazar Diaz in the 25th minute. Marcos Lopez tied the game in the 39th minute.

Ian Young restored the Cadets’ lead, but Evan Schmidt tied the game again on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute.

Oliver Nathaniels­z made four saves for Albany Academy, while Tim Lopez made eight stops in the Mohonasen net.

Field hockey: Anna Lee and Emily Fleming each scored a goal and Emilia Haverly made eight saves as Johnstown remained undefeated with a 2-1 win over South Glens Falls at Knox Field. Lee gave the Lady Bills (3-0, 3-0) the lead off a corner early in the second quarter. Fleming made it 2-0 Johnstown early in the second half off a cross from Taryn Ringer. South Glens Falls pulled within a goal with 14:27 to play when Jillian Willis notched an unassisted goal after a scramble in front of the cage. Ava Reynolds made six saves for South Glens Falls. Johnstown held a 10-8 edge in corners.

Boys’ volleyball: Burnt Hills outlasted Shenendeho­wa to earn a win in four sets (27-25, 25-22, 27-29, 35-33). Aidan Calhoun led the Spartans (3-1, 2-1) with 20 assists, seven blocks and three aces. Bennent Wilson had 12 kills and two kills for the Plainsmen.
