Wasaren rivals battle to draw
Hoosick Falls, Hoosic Valley rely on big defensive efforts
Katelyn Chamberlain made 12 saves, and Hoosic Valley earned a 0-0 draw on the road against rival Hoosick Falls in a Wasaren League clash Monday night at Afrim’s Sports Park.
The Panthers got off 20 shots in the match, making Chamberlain earn the clean sheet with a stellar defensive effort.
Olivia Estes made two saves for Hoosick Falls to keep the Indians off the scoreboard as well.
“Our defense did a great job of pressuring the ball, winning the 50/50 balls and really played as a unit today,” said Hoosick Falls coach Tom Husser.
Field hockey: Taryn Ringer scored three times, Kalena Eaton and Nicole Simon each added two and Johnstown topped Glens Falls 9-0 at Knox Field. Mackenzie Heffernan and Emily Fleming each added a goal for the Lady Bills, who fired 39 shots on the day. Julianna Mitchell made 25 saves for the Indians in the loss. Johnstown is 4-0 on the year in Foothills Council play.
Girls’ volleyball: April Buechner finished with six kills and three blocks to lead Schalmont past Albany Academy for Girls in a Colonial Council match. Alexa Knapik added 14 assists and four aces for the Sabres, who won by scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-9 . ... Kasia Barletta had 20 service points, six aces and 20 digs to lead Shenendehowa to a 3-0 victory over South Glens Falls. Game scores were 25-7, 25-6 and 25-12 . ... Gloversville lost the first game, but battled back to win the next three in a victory over Broadalbin-perth in the Foothills Council. Game scores were 15-25, 25-18, 25-22 and 25-17. Lily Mitchell finished with four aces and 30 assists in a losing effort for the Patriots.
Boys’ volleyball: Aiden Calhoun finished
with 16 assists, five kills and three aces to lead Burnt Hills-ballston Lake over Guilderland 3-1 in a Suburban Council matchup. Game scores were 25-17, 25-16, 22-25 and 25-9. Ben Pearce added four kills, four blocks and 13 digs for the Spartans.
