FEELING CALL OF STAGE AFTER A LONG PAUSE
Local musicians eager to play live, when it’s safe
With the amount of fully vaccinated New Yorkers steadily on the uptick, warmer weather and loosening restrictions on venues, live music could be returning to the Capital Region sooner rather than later. Here’s how several 518-based musicians are feeling about that:
“Both Haley Moley and Architrave are looking forward to returning to live performance, but definitely do not want to contribute to enabling situations that would aggravate the spread of COVID in what we hope is the final stretch of this nightmare,” said Jennifer Maher Coleman of alternative groups Haley Moley and Architrave. “I remember in March 2020 when there was that hesitant teetering on the edge of decisions about canceling gigs as things began to shut down, and how hard it was to weigh our excitement about the shows against the potential for the harm brought by gathering. We’re standing in a similarly perilous place right now as the temptation to round up the troops for a cathartic reunion is strong but unfortunately premature.”
“I feel excited to start performing again,” exclaimed Shi-rahn Mayweather, who raps under the moniker Clear Mind. “That’s like my joy, it brings me so much life. Live music makes your music so much more felt and honestly for me, I can show people physically how much my craft means to me. I know what the guidelines are and believe in following the rules. I would make sure everyone did the same to make sure everyone can enjoy a safe environment and performance.”
