Local fundraisers, grants in the Capital Region
Here’s news of recent fundraising and donations efforts in the Capital Region.
Pantry drive-through
Ballston Spa National Bank with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York hosts its 13th contactless drive-through food pantry on Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. at 990 Route 67 in Ballston Spa. It is open to area families and individuals in need of food assistance. Patrons receive food on a first-come, firstserved basis, while supplies last.
School aids literacy
Preschool and elementary school students at the Robert C. Parker School raised a donation of $3,050 to benefit the Albanybased children’s literacy organization, The RED Bookshelf. To promote and celebrate literacy that includes all children, the
Pre-k to 4th grade students participated in a day-long reada-thon. Students collected pledges from family and friends and each class spent the entire day reading. To make the day extra special, everyone wore pajamas, and each class featured a variety of guest readers including specialist teachers and administrators.
Shoppers fight hunger
New York and Vermont shoppers at Healthy Living Market and Café raised more than $49,000 for their local food banks by asking if customers wanted to round up at the registers. In Saratoga County, the Wilton Food Pantry and the Franklin Community Center Food Shelf each received $3,186.
Menstrual supplies given
The Mooncatcher Project celebrated founder and CEO Ellie von Wellsheim’s birthday by collecting menstrual supplies for donation to area helping organizations. In this fifth birthday collection, donors contributed 540 boxes of menstrual supplies which the project delivered to Joseph’s House in Troy, the YWCA of Northeastern NY in Schenectady, the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York in Latham, Family Promise of the Capital Region in Albany, City Mission of Schenectady and Schenectady Community Action Program.
