■ TOP SCHOLARS

Rebecca Akinwale, Schenectad­y, was named valedictor­ian for the Albany Leadership Charter School class of 2021. She will attend Syracuse University in the fall.

Kelsey Hinderlite­r leads the top 10 at Broadalbin-perth schools, with a final GPA of over 100. The others are Lilian Mitchell, Aubrey Jennings, Bethany Costanzo, Sarah Larsen, Riley Eipp, Macie Pasquarell­i, Alexis Smith, Michaela Staie and Isaiah Blackmon.

■ SUMMER INTERNSHIP

Avi Bagchi, Loudonvill­e, a junior at Shaker High School, has been selected for the STEM Enhancemen­t in Earth and Space Sciences summer internship at the University of Texas at Austin’s Center for Space Research.

■ ART CONTEST WINNER

Yaelis Rincon, 6, of Amsterdam, is a winner for her Uni-bat creation in a national art contest sponsored by Time4learn­ing, a national online homeschool­ing curriculum.

■ ART LEAGUE SCHOLARSHI­P AWARDS

Henry Tetteh, Latham, a senior at Shaker High School in Latham and Enzo Lontoc, Albany, a senior at Colonie Central High School in Colonie, are recipients of the 2021 Colonie Art League Scholarshi­p Awards. Tetteh plans to study architectu­re, Lontoc

plans to study digital art and animation.

REGIONAL ENVIROTHON COMPETITIO­N WINNERS

The Ballston Spa High School Envirothon Team was named the Saratoga County winner as well as the grand champions of the regional event in the Saratoga Regional Envirothon Competitio­n, held virtually this year. The team is eligible to compete in the virtual NY State Envirothon Competitio­n on May 25 through 28. Members of the team include Zach Baskin, Erin Battaglia, Celine Cammarere, Jakob Nichols, Alyssa Stoffel and Cameron Mckay (alternate). The NY State Envirothon, sponsored by the New York State Soil and Water Conservati­on Districts, is designed to test students’ knowledge and understand­ing of natural resource issues within state.

WOMEN IN BUSINESS AWARD

Shivani Patel, a junior at the Lally School of Management at Rensselaer Polytechni­c Institute in Troy, is the recipient of the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business award by The Zonta Club of Albany. The scholarshi­p is presented to women undertakin­g business studies who have demonstrat­ed outstandin­g potential in the field. The Zonta Club of Albany presents a $1,000 award and submits the winner to the district, where the winner receives $2,000.
