Menn, Conley-wilson take contests in Troy

Newcomer says strong outreach connected with many city voters

- Staff report

Democratic primary candidate Emily Menn took 80 percent of the machine votes in her campaign for the Troy City Council’s District 4, while Kiani Conley-wilson scored a two-toone margin Tuesday in the party primary for the city’s 5th District seat.

A third Democratic primary, for the city’s 6th District, is only 10 votes apart, with about 40 absentee ballots remaining, according to the Rensselaer County Board of Elections. Marketa Edwards leads 142-132 over Cheryl Kennedy.

Conley-wilson, who has a 351-167 margin over Cary Dresher, said in a statement that virtual listening sessions and conversations on stoops and doorsteps helped the campaign develop a progressive platform “that put the priorities of Troy’s laborers, tenants, and working-class residents above the interests of the wellconnected.”

The seat is held by Councilman Ken Zalewski, who was seeking the party endorsement to run for the county Legislature and on Tuesday was among those in the lead.

In the 4th District, Menn’s margin was 136-28 over Anthony R. Papineau.

In other results, Democrats chose among nine candidates for six spots in the County Legislature’s District 1. Unofficial results, which do not include absentee ballots, are as follows: Cynthia B. Doran, 964; Carole Weaver, 903; Ken Zalewski, 886; Nina M. Nichols, 883; Peter D. Grimm, 883; Mark J. Fleming, 817; Erin A. Sullivan-teta, 694; Marc R. Pallozzi, 602; and Bobby M. Burns, 516.

Gwen Wright won the Working Families line for county executive on the way to facing incumbent Republican Steve Mclaughlin in November.
