BRUNSWICK — Lauretta A. Mcguirk PH.D. of Brunswick died on June 20, 2021.

She will be remembered as a devout Catholic, educator, sister and aunt. Lauretta was dedicated to her family and students.

Lauretta was born on May 6, 1937, in Troy, to the late James F. Mcguirk Sr. and Catherine Neville Mcguirk. Educated at St. Mary’s School and Catholic Central High School (Class of 1955) in Troy, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Education from Russell Sage College, Master of Arts from the College of St. Rose, and Dr. of Philosophy in Educationa­l Administra­tion from the State University of New York at Albany.

As a devout Catholic, Lauretta was an Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, as well as parishione­r of St. Mary’s in Troy and later Our Lady of Victory in Troy. As a dedicated educator throughout the Capital District, Lauretta was a teacher, principal and supervisor of elementary education at schools in the Albany Catholic Diocese; principal at Tamarac Elementary School and the Academy of the Holy Names Lower School; and adjunct professor at the College of St. Rose and Russell Sage College.

She is survived by her siblings, Catherine Resnik (late John Resnik) of Cape Cod, James F. Mcguirk Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Loudonvill­e, and Sharon Mcguirk Wagar and her husband Terry of Brunswick; sister-in-law Diane Mcguirk of Brunswick; many nieces and nephews; and her dear friend and caregiver, Sr. Maureeen Moffitt CSJ. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Shirley Zampier and her husband Al, Ruth Hogan and her husband Bill, and Michael L. Mcguirk.

There will be no calling hours. Mass will be held on Saturday, June 26, at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy and burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Troy.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Joseph’s Provincial House Developmen­t Fund in Latham and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
