Perez Jaquith of Niskayuna, husband moving to Washington

- Staff report

Town Board member Rosemarie Perez Jaquith, who was elected to a four-year term in November 2019, said will be resigning effective Thursday, July 1, as she and her husband are moving to the Washington, D.C. area.

Perez Jaquith’s husband, former U.S. Attorney Grant C.

Jaquith, was appointed judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, located in Washington, in September. Due to public health concerns associated with COVID -19, the court has been continuing normal operations with a largely remote workforce but Judge Jaquith expects that work in the courts will resume this fall, Perez Jaquith said in her statement.

“We are acutely aware of the precious nature of time these days,” Perez Jaquith said. “The many months of long hours spent working from home at the same time have made living apart unthinkable. We are also looking forward to having an everyday presence in the lives of our grandchildren, who live in the D.C. area.”

She said that she is resigning now so town voters can choose her successor. She said under state law, the remaining board members will select someone to serve in her place through the end of the year. The vacancy must be filled in this November’s election. Whoever is elected this November will complete the remaining two years of Perez Jaquith’s term, which ends Dec. 31, 2023.
