3-way contest shapes up in Saratoga race
Lawyer Rella seeks post of accounts commissioner
Yet another ballot line has been created to enter yet another candidate into the race for City Council.
Attorney Angela Rella announced on Wednesday that she will run for commissioner of accounts on a new ballot line of her own creation, the Accountability Party. The race in November will now be a threeway one with Rella running against Republican and Conservative Samantha Guerra, who is also running on United Saratoga, another independent line, and Democrat Dillon Moran, who is also running on third independent line, Resilient Saratoga.
“I decided to run because Saratoga needs a qualified Commissioner of Accounts to shepherd us through this unprecedented POST-COVID time,” Rella said in an emailed statement. “The accounts department plays a crucial role in supporting our small businesses, many of which suffered tremendous hardship in the past 15 months. One of my primary focuses will be to help these businesses succeed, so that Saratoga can continue to thrive.”
She grew up in Niskayuna and has earned a bachelor of science in electrical engineering and a bachelor of arts in English from Binghamton University. She received her law degree from Columbia Law School.
Rella says she has experience in accounts as a corporate lawyer who deals with contracts, insurance and real estate. She also said she has “a long history of working on behalf of those who need it most—from requiring school districts to provide necessary services to struggling students, to assisting low-income families prepare tax returns.”
Currently, she represents residents, pro bono, in immigration and domestic violence cases and serves on the city’s Civil Service Commission.
As an independent candidate, she said she will listen to and represent the interests of all residents. She also promised not to reassess city properties.
“Throughout my career, I have helped people with the everyday struggles they face,” Rella said. “I would be honored to have the opportunity to continue this work on the City Council. I will use my experience, commitment to hard work, and ability to collaborate to get results for the people of Saratoga Springs.”
