— Peter Gaudio, 80 of Colonie, passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at his residence with his loving family by his side.

Born in Amorosi, Italy on January 16, 1941, he was the son of the late Angelo M. and Belinda Gaudio. Peter enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served is country during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his service, he moved to the Albany area in 1955 and worked as a mason in the Union, Local #2 in Albany.

Peter was a communican­t of St. Paul the Apostle Church, Schenectad­y and the West Albany Italian Benevolent Society. He enjoyed playing bocci and making wine.

In addition to his parents, Peter was predecease­d by his beloved wife of 56 years, Luigia "Gina" Gaudio; his loyal son, Angelo Michael Gaudio; and his sister, Philomena Scala. He is survived by his loving children, Belinda (Robert) Shumway of Colonie, Peter (Robin) Gaudio of South Carolina and Joann Gaudio of Colonie; his daughter-inlaw, Wendy Gaudio of Colonie; seven grandchild­ren, Michael Wiley, Devin Pullen, Danielle Gaudio, Linsday Sandgren, Karissa (Joseph) Schupp, Ciara Concetta Gaudio and Peter Anthony Gaudio; three great-grandsons, Joseph Schupp Jr., Christian Wiley and Luciano Smiroldo; his beloved sister, Angela Viscusi of Schenectad­y; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciati­on to the nurses who cared for their father in his final days.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 3, at 11 a.m. in St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany St., Schenectad­y. Entombment will immediatel­y follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie.

Barbara loved talking about movies and television with family members. She was particular­ly fond of sharing insights about Breaking Bad with her son Nicholas. She is remembered for empathizin­g with characters and telling her boys, "I get chills!" when Scarlett O’hara announced she’d never go hungry again. She was always great at motivating her son Marc with stickers for reading and ice cream cones at Stewart’s for base hits. Barbara and her eldest son, Anthony, had lively political discussion­s, each representi­ng a different side. Barbara and her husband Vincent encouraged their children to read and understand words by playing many games of Scrabble with them. The games became a family tradition. The Lafleche family has many great memories of trips to Lake George, Maine, New Jersey, and Florida. Filled with an adventurou­s spirit, Barbara surprised her sons by once plunging off a waterslide.

The family would like to thank Drs. Manish Mehta and Leslie Parikh and numerous nurses, staff and visiting nurses who were so helpful to Barbara with her surgeries at Ellis Hospital and Latham Medical Group in Latham and Queensbury as well as her home care and compassion they gave to her.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 3, at 11:30 a.m. in St. Edward the Confessor Church, Clifton Park with Father Patrick Butler as celebrant. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Barbara’s family on Friday, July 2, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Rd, Latham. A private interment will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet.
