2nd Schenectad­y man charged with murder in shooting at Colonie motel

Desirique Johnson, 22, arraigned in death of Xiaa Price in May

Town police charged a second Schenectad­y man with second-degree murder in connection with the May 11 shooting of Xiaa Price in the parking lot of the Curry Road Motel 6.

Desirique Johnson, 22, was taken into custody at around 4 p.m. Wednesday in Schenectad­y. Police said officers spotted Johnson near his home and took him into custody after a brief foot chase.

He was arraigned Wednesday night on the felony and sent to the Albany County jail without bail pending a future court date.

Police have remained tightlippe­d about Johnson’s alleged role and a possible motive for the killing. Price’s aunt Sherain Rivera has told the Times Union that at least three masked man were trying to rob her nephew, who was with his brother when the shooting happened.

Price, who his aunt said was

raised in the church with his two siblings and loved her soulfood cooking, was laid to rest on his 22nd birthday.

Days after the slaying, police arrested and charged 23-yearold Paul A L Streeks, also of Schenectad­y, with seconddegr­ee murder and felony criminal possession of a weapon.

Price, a Schenectad­y resident, died from a single gunshot wound near the motel, which is near the Rotterdam town line, said police

Town police officers tried to revive Price. He was alive at the scene but later died of the injuries.
