Hoffman latest recipient of scholastic award

Jenna Hoffman, a senior at Maple Hill High School, has been named as one of the 10 scholastic award recipients for 2021 by the Capital District Sports Women of the Year.

Hoffman, who competes in basketball, softball, tennis, and volleyball, will be recognized at the Capital District Sports Women of the Year Awards Gala at 7 p.m. on Aug. 9 at the GE Theatre at Proctors in Schenectad­y.

NFL: Jaguars quarterbac­k Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 draft, signed his four-year rookie contract for $36.8 million, which includes $24.1 million in guaranteed money and the usual fifth-year option.

Olympics: Former Uconn women’s basketball standout Gabby Williams made the 12-person Olympic team for France, where she is a naturalize­d citizen . ... College football: Terry Donahue, the winningest coach in Pac-12 Conference and UCLA football history who later served as general manager of the NFL’S San Francisco 49ers, has died at 77 after a two-year fight with cancer. He had a 151-74-8 coaching record at UCLA and a 9851-5 mark in Pac-12 play and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2000.

Cycling: Olympic champion Anna van der Breggen of the Netherland­s added to her overall lead in the prestigiou­s Giro d’italia Donne, winning a difficult uphill time trial by more than a minute over teammate and countrywom­an Demi Vollering.
