The Sussex County Miners shut out the Tricity Valleycats 6-0 in Game 1, but then the thundersto­rms rolled in to postpone Game 2 of their scheduled Frontier League doublehead­er on Friday at Skylands Stadium in Augusta, N.J.

The Miners and Valleycats will attempt to play two again on Saturday, with the first game of the twin bill set for 4:05 p.m. back at Skylands Stadium.

With Mother Nature’s approval, Sussex County jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening inning of Friday’s action. Chuck Taylor had a solo home run, Andy Ciriaco added an RBI double and Cito Culver chipped in with an RBI single to build the three-run advantage for the Miners.

Martin Figueroa hit a solo homer in the second, Ciriaco had another RBI double and Culver added another RBI single in the third to close the scoring for Sussex County.

Starter Baylor Sundahl picked up the win, tossing 5 1⁄3 shutout innings, for the Miners (23-11).

Brad Zunica finished the game 1-for-3 and Willy Garcia was 1-for-2 with a walk for the Valleycats (16-20), who could muster just two singles on offense on the day.
