WATERFORD — F. Donald Hansen, age 81, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family on July 14, 2021, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Don was born on September 13, 1939, in Troy to Frederick D. Hansen and Julie Hansen (Cummings). He was a 1957 graduate of Waterford-halfmoon High School and was a lifelong resident of Waterford. He was a member of the Kavanaugh Hook & Ladder Firehouse in Waterford since 1962. Don worked his entire life as a printer at the Troy Record Newspaper, retiring in 2000. He also profession­ally installed chain link fencing using the tools liquidated from his former position at Montgomery Ward. Often seen at Don and Paul’s Coffee Shop, Don was known by many of the locals and he always enjoyed "shooting the breeze" with them.

Don was predecease­d by his parents and his two sisters, Hannah Baker and Marcie Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna Marie Hansen (Riley). He was the proud father of his four children: Kim Gorman (Paul) of Troy, Sue Brennan of Stillwater, Donna Lynn Hansen (Craig) of Lincolnton, N.C., and Frederick Hansen, Jr. (Jill) of Rensselaer. Don is also survived by his eight grandchild­ren: Johnny Gorman, Samantha Conboy (Ben), Kyle Brennan, Kristopher Brennan, Sara Brennan, Skylar Brennan, Riley Hansen and Nora Hansen. He recently was blessed with a great-grandchild, Sophia Conboy.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Tuesday, July 20, at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford. Calling hours are from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. with service to follow, officiated by Pastor Michael Crandall. Interment will be in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie.
