Park shooting
Bethlehem attack is followed soon afterward by slaying in Albany
One killed, one injured during memorial service for another crime victim.
One person was killed and another injured in a shooting Tuesday night at Henry Hudson Park that happened during a memorial service for another crime victim, police said.
Rahmier S. Stevenson, 23, of Albany, was killed and a 20-year-old from Troy was injured after getting shot in his leg and buttocks just before 9 p.m. outside a pavilion at the park, which is located off River Road in Bethlehem.
Stevenson was one of two Albany residents killed in shootings within four hours of each other.
Albany police said they were called to the intersection of Second and Quail streets around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday for a reported shooting. They found Tyrone Wroten, 46, with a gunshot wound to his torso. Wroten was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wroten is the 13th person killed in the city of Albany this year.
Bethlehem Supervisor David Vanluven posted information about the park killing on the Next Door website and
his Facebook page Wednesday afternoon.
“We have learned that visitors came from outside our town to use the park for a private gathering to mourn a young man killed last year,” Vanluven
wrote.
“Let’s not forget that a young man lost his life last night, and let’s all take a moment to feel sympathy and compassion for him and his family and
friends. We are a strong community, and in addition to supporting each other, we also support our neighbors whether they live in the next house, the next block, or the next town,” the supervisor wrote.
Officers had a large area of the park taped off Wednesday, from behind the pavilion to the waterfront.
This is the third time this year two Albany men have died from gun violence within
a day of each other.
On May 21, Sharf “David” Addalim, 35, was the unintended target in a drive-by shooting near First and Quail streets. Hours later, Lashon Turner, 39, was shot near the intersection of Henry Johnson Boulevard and Central Avenue. Two months later, on July 23, Lamon Lanier, 34, was killed near Willett Street and Hudson Avenue. The next morning, Rashad Nicholson, 30, was fatally shot near Third and Oak streets.
