Amtrak to offer train service to state fair
Rides will stop at fairgrounds near Syracuse; travelers must wear masks
Amtrak will run direct passenger train service to the New York State Fair and back starting Friday through Sept. 6.
Select Empire Service will run on trains 281, 283 and 284, and Maple Leaf service on trains 63 and 64, making daily stops at the State Fair adjacent to the fairgrounds near Syracuse. In addition to Albany, there will be stops at Rochester and Syracuse. Passengers can also board from Hudson Valley and New York City.
The trains will run under the Amtrak station code NYF.
Customers can also save with a See NY and Save discount until Sunday, Sept. 5, when booking online at least five days in advance of travel, or through Monday, Sept. 6, via everyday discounts for children, seniors and military groups.
Tickets are available at Amtrak.com, via the Amtrak mobile app, at station ticket counters or by calling 800-USARAIL. Amtrak offers free Wi-fi.
Westbound daily trips originating in
New York City at 7:15 a.m., 10:20 a.m. and 1:20 p.m. will stop at the fair at 1:08 p.m. on Train 63, 4:08 p.m. daily on Train 281, and 7:02 p.m. on Train 283, respectively.
Eastbound trains originating from Niagara Falls at 6:21 a.m. and 11:57 a.m. will stop at the fair at 9:21 a.m. on Train 284 and 2:54 p.m. on Train 64, respectively, before continuing to Albany and New York City.
Prices from Albany to the fair start at $32 one way, according to the website.
Amtrak is requiring that customers and employees wear face masks on trains and stations regardless of vaccination status or state or local laws.
Amtrak is no longer limiting capacity. When searching for travel, the percentage of seats sold displays next to each trip option and adjusts as more reservations are made, which gives customers the opportunity to book a train that is less crowded. If capacity exceeds comfort levels, customers can change their ticket without incurring a fee.
