Chatham, Coxsackie claim titles

Panthers’ Haner, Indians’ Bartels win cross country races

Brycen Haner of Chatham ran a course record to lead Chatham to the team title at the Patroon Conference Championsh­ips Wednesday at Roeliff Jansen Park in Hillsdale.

Haner finished the 3-mile country course in 17 minutes, 1 second, six seconds ahead of Eli Russo of Taconic Hills. Greenville’s Finn Kosich finished third in 17:39. Aiden Smedstead of Coxsackie and Toby Jerald of Chatham rounded out the top five.

In the girls’ race, Grace Bartels of Coxsackie came first to help the Indians take home the team title. Bartels finished the 3-mile course in 21 minutes, 16 seconds, 26 seconds ahead of teammate Claire Hubert, who finished second. Ella Uhlar of Chatham, Olivia Eaton of Maple Hill and Emily Smith of Greenville rounded out the top five runners.

Field hockey: Lillian Willis scored two goals in the second half to propel No. 1 South Glens Falls to a 2-0 win over No. 4 Scotia in the Class B semifinals. Ava Reynolds made three saves for the Bulldogs (15-1) . ... Top-seeded Johnstown scored three times in the final quarter to get past Schuylervi­lle, 3-0, in their Class C semifinal contest. Cole Krempa scored with 13 minutes, 49 seconds to go to give the Lady Bills a 1-0 lead. Krempa scored again with 10:48 left to make it 2-0 and Emily Pertell had the final tally at 5:44 to close out the scoring . ... Hoosick Falls shut out Granville, 2-0, to advance to take on Johnstown in Sunday’s Class C championsh­ip. The Panthers scored twice in the opening quarter and cruised the rest of the way to pick up the semifinal victory. Gwyn Vincent and Tatum Hickey had the Hoosick Falls goals.

Girls’ volleyball: Eighth-seeded Maple Hill swept ninth-seeded Warrensbur­g, 3-0, in the Class D opening round. Sam Maunu notched eight aces, 16 assists and four kills to lead Maple Hill, which won by scores of 25-15, 25-10 and 25-23.
