COLONIE — Audrey J. Meyer, a loving mother of two, surrounded by her angels, went home to the lord in the early hours of January 20, 2022, after a courageous battle with Neuroendocrine Pancreatic Cancer.

Audrey was born in St. Louis, Mo. on June 17, 1938, the daughter of the late Harvey and Muriel (Richmann) Spinzig. She graduated from South West High School and was a majorette as well as a member of the band playing the clarinet, flute, marimba and glockenspiel. She was also chaplin of the Masonic Order "Jacobs Daughters," and "Jacobs Daughters," and queen of Carondelet Chapter. Her love of horses began early life as she would ride her bike to the pony track after school and help the young children become more comfortable riding them. Later, she became a trail guide at Valley Falls Stables. Water skiing at Lake of The Ozarks was another interest of hers, but her true passion was nursing. Audrey graduated from Jewish Hospital Nursing School as an R.N. in 1959. The following year, she relocated to the Capital District and over the next 40 years, worked at Samaritan Hospital, St. Clare’s Hospital and Ellis Hospital. She then moved to private duty nursing and eventually became a nurse supervisor with US Home Care. Audrey was a member of Hope Church in St. Louis, a deacon at Woodlawn Reformed Church and a member of Lisha’s Kill Reformed Church. After retiring from nursing, her desire to continue to help people brought her to the City Mission’s Phoebe’s Closet where she volunteered for 12 years. Audrey was an inspiration to all as she bravely battled cancer for nine years. She was always positive and kind, and dressed to the nines with fabulous hair! She would always say "save me a hug."

Audrey is survived by her loving children, Jean (Romano) Fenelon, and James Romano; her brother, Robert Spinzig; sister-in-law, Mavis Spinzig; four nieces and nephews; several greatnieces and great-nephews; her Monday Lunch Bunch group, longtime fellow nurse friends, and of course Marianne.

Calling hours will be held from 9-11 a.m. with the service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 27, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie.
