Devers, Martinez homer to lift Sox
Wacha helps limit Angels to 3 hits in combined shutout
Rafael Devers homered, Michael Wacha pitched into the sixth and the Boston Red Sox beat the Angels 4-0 on Tuesday.
J.D. Martinez added a solo homer in the eighth to help seal it for Boston, which held the Angels to three hits in its second shutout of the season.
Noah Syndergaard (2-1) had a solid start for the Angels, holding the Red Sox to three runs and eight hits over seven innings. But the Angels didn’t give him any run support, squandering the few chances they had by grounding into three double plays.
Rangers 6, Phillies 4: Mitch Garver and Jonah Heim homered and Zach Reks snapped a tie with a two-rbi double, leading Texas past Philadelphia.
White Sox 3, Cubs 1: Tim
Anderson homered and Jose Abreu made two nice plays at first base, helping the White Sox beat the Cubs.
Twins 7, Orioles 2: Ryan Jeffers hit a tiebreaking, threerun homer in the sixth and surging Minnesota beat Baltimore for its fourth win in a row.
D’backs 5, Marlins 4: Christian Walker had a home run, double and three RBIS, and Arizona held on to beat Miami.
Brewers 6, Reds 3: Brandon Woodruff struck out 12 to tie his career high, Willy Adames hit a three-run homer and Milwaukee won its sixth of seven. Rowdy Tellez added a solo homer. Tommy Pham and Mike Moustakas homered back-to-back for Cincinnati.
Royals 7, Cardinals 1: Bobby Witt Jr. hit his first major league homer, Brad Keller pitched shutout ball into the seventh and K.C. ended a four-game skid. MJ Melendez got a hit in his big league debut. Edward Olivares had a career-high four hits.
Astros 4, Mariners 0: Houston manager Dusty Baker won his 2,000th game, becoming the 12th manager in big league history to reach the milestone and the first Black man to do it.
Notes: Tuesday night’s scheduled game between the Padres and Guardians was postponed by rain. The game will be made up Wednesday as part of a traditional doubleheader starting at 1:10 p.m . ... The game between the Pirates and Tigers scheduled for Tuesday night was rained out, and will be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday . ... The Reds put slumping first baseman Joey Votto on the COVID-19 injured list. Manager David Bell said Votto hasn’t tested positive for the virus . ...
