Van Kempen’s line: 15 up, 15 strikeouts

Ahead 10-0, Maple Hill ace goes just 5 innings because of mercy rule

Gavin Van Kempen struck out all 15 batters he faced in Maple Hill’s 10-0 home win over Watervliet on Tuesday in a Patroon Conference baseball game.

Van Kempen’s latest gem was cut short after five innings of perfection due to the mercy rule. In addition to the abbreviate­d perfecto, Van Kempen has two no-hitters and allowed one hit and one earned run in 24 innings this season. He has struck out 68 batters.

Sam Gamello hit a solo home run and scored two runs. Van Kempen had two hits, knocked in a run and scored twice.

More baseball: In a pitchers’ duel, Connor King and Hoosic Valley edged Ronan Rowe and Saratoga Catholic 1-0 in a Wasaren League game. King scattered three hits and struck out nine, including the final two batters in the seventh with two runners in scoring position. Mike Lancaster scored the lone run on a bases-loaded catcher’s interferen­ce. Rowe struck out 18 and allowed three hits.

Softball: Olivia Decitise struck out 13 and Katie Pryor singled in the go-ahead run in the fifth to spark Troy to a 2-1 win over Shenendeho­wa. Natalie Colone walked twice and scored the Plainsmen’s run . ... Shelby Lamont hit a walk-off three-run home run to give Amsterdam a 21-20 win over Johnstown.

Girls’ lacrosse: Saratoga Springs jumped out to a 10-3 first-half advantage and cruised to a 19-10 win over visiting Colonie in a Suburban Council contest. Carly Wise scored six goals and Izzy Burke added three goals and two assists to lead the Blue Streaks’ offense. Avery Connolly had three goals and an assist for Colonie.

Boys’ tennis: Bethlehem kept its perfect record intact and moved to 9-0 on the season with a 9-0 shutout of rival Colonie in Suburban Council action. Will Bievenue led the singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory while the teams of Michael Xie and Luke Doyle along with Zach Harbinger and Howie Vargas also provided a pair of 6-0, 6-0 doubles’ wins for the Eagles.

Boys’ track and field: Alex Saltsman set a school record in the discus with a combined total of 184 feet in Fonda’s 121-18 win over Canajohari­e. Saltsman

also won the shot put.
