Launching on the Hudson
After completing a major restoration of the sloop’s topsides this winter — with support from the state Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation and the Clearwater Century Fund — Clearwater will return to the river in early May at Scarano’s Boatyard in Albany. Restoration included work above the waterline from the chain plates forward. All the planks and frames including the top timbers and stanchions were replaced. This year, Clearwater will sail June to October from docks between Albany and New York City. New York's naval force, below, officially welcomed the newest addition to its fleet of patrol boats Saturday with a ceremony at Historic Catskill Point on the Hudson River in Catskill. The 35-foot landing craft-style boat was christened LC-351 by Patricia Weill, wife of Rear Admiral Lawrence Weill, commander of the 2,700-member New York Naval Militia, as seen below.
