The Queensbury girls’ lacrosse team spent last spring excelling each time it took the field. The Spartans played 14 times and won 14 games, many in dominating fashion on their way to capturing the Section II Class B title.

But there would no reward beyond sectional play for Queensbury as state tournaments were canceled during the spring because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are really looking forward to that. We’ve been working all season,” Queensbury star midfielder Brigid Duffy said. “We couldn’t go past sectionals last season. It is really important to see how far we can get. Having this game really helped us out to play teams that are competitive and the kind we will be seeing at the next level.”

Now a senior, Duffy has showed she is ready and prepared to lead a younger contingent this season to another sectional title and a chance to compete in the state playoffs. Duffy delivered six goals and four assists against Scotia in a 28-2 win and tallied seven goals and two assists in a 16-8 triumph over Burnt Hills-ballston Lake.

For her efforts, Duffy has been selected as the Times Union’s Girls’ Athlete of the Week for the period of April 25-May 1.

The performances turned in by Duffy against Scotia and BH-BL elevated the senior’s season statistics up to 45 goals and 27 assists through eight victories.

“I am very grateful for my teammates for always setting me up with great passes,” Duffy said.

Duffy, who is set to continue her lacrosse career at Army, helped Queensbury jump out to a 10-1 advantage over BH-BL through 12 minutes of play in a rematch of the 2021 Section II Class B final. The Spartans led 13-4 at halftime and Duffy tallied all her of team’s goals after intermission to help seal the win.

As was the case in 2021, Queensbury coach David Huth has scheduled difficult competition outside of Foothills Council play and his squad continues to answer each of those challenges by producing victories.

“We have to push ourselves,” Huth said. “We ended undefeated last year, but there was not a chance to do anything (else). The girls, especially Brigid with her clock starting to tick as a senior, really want to do well. How is your legacy when you leave? She has a chance to do some special things before she leaves.”
