LANSING, Mich. — Mary Jane (Brothers) Canfora, 78 of Lansing, Mich., passed away on April 28, 2022, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Albany, N.Y., on June 26, 1943, to Russell and Eileen (Lynch) Brothers, the youngest of four children.

Growing up in Guilderlan­d, Mary Jane was a graduate of Indian Lake High School in New York. Throughout her life she worked as a bartender, at the Times Union and at the State of New York, retiring from the Department of Motor Vehicles in 1995.

Mary Jane married Thomas Canfora in 1975 and they had one child. She was the lynchpin of her household and family.

Once retired, Mary Jane and Tom moved to Florida, where she enjoyed the Gulf of Mexico. She loved boat rides, especially encounteri­ng dolphins and sea turtles, and following the active weather. In 2019, Mary Jane and Tom moved to Lansing to be closer to their family and became a huge part of their grandchild­ren’s lives.

She was a life long Democrat that volunteere­d on the 1960 Kennedy Campaign and was proud to have met Erastus Corning.

Mary Jane is survived by her son Luke, and daughterin-law, Chong-anna, and her adored grandchild­ren, Jackson and Miles. She loved her grandsons to the moon and back, and the feeling was mutual.

A committal service will be held on May 9, at 2:30 p.m. in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
