Siena, Danes men fall

No. 1 Ualbany women advance to final vs. Vermont

Vermont built a big lead early and cruised to a 17-7 win over the University at Albany in the America East Tournament men’s lacrosse semifinals Thursday in Burlington, Vt.

Thomas Mcconvey led the Catamounts (10-6) with seven goals and an assist. Brett Haley added three goals in the win.

Graydon Hogg had three goals and Logan Tucker scored a pair for the Danes (5-10).

Vermont will play Maryland-baltimore County in the final Saturday in Burlington.

More men’s lacrosse: Topseeded St. Bonaventur­e ended Siena’s season by pulling away late to beat the Saints 12-10 in Poughkeeps­ie. Jackson Rose scored with 2:48 remaining to put St. Bonaventur­e ahead to stay. He added an insurance goal to finish with six goals for the game. Rose led the Bonnies with 34 goals this season. The game went back and forth, with six ties. Siena led twice. Christian Watts and Nick Pepe scored 27 seconds apart midway through the fourth quarter to tie the game for the last time. Watts led the Saints with three goals. Siena outshot St. Bonaventur­e, 57-29. St. Bonaventur­e will face Manhattan on Saturday in the final. The Jaspers beat Marist 13-12.

Women’s lacrosse: Katie Pascale and Sarah Falk both scored five goals to spark the top-seeded University at Albany women to a 16-13 win over No. 4 Maryland-baltimore County in the semifinals of the America East Tournament. Ualbany took the lead for good with five straight goals to start the second half, two from Falk. Pascale scored two goals in the first period to help stake the Great Danes to a 5-1 lead, but the Retrievers scored seven of the next eight goals to take an 8-6 lead by halftime. Katana Nelson, Claire Bockstie and Dymin Gerow each scored three goals for UMBC. Ualbany will play Vermont in the final on Saturday.
