Pitching gems prevail
Three hurlers get 15 strikeouts, and 2 have no-hitters
Jedadiah Trudeau of Cohoes baseball, Olivia Decitise of Troy softball and Drew Nelson of Scotia baseball all were on top of their games Thursday.
Trudeau threw a nohitter with 15 strikeouts to spark Cohoes to a 10-0 win over Voorheesville in a Colonial Council game. Nicholas Chicaway homered for the Tigers.
Decitise also threw a no-hitter with 15 Ks in a 2-0 win over Columbia in the Suburban Council.
Ava Salvaggio doubled, singled and scored a run to lead the Flying Horses.
Nelson allowed one hit and struck out 15 to lead Scotia to an 8-0 win over Gloversville in a Foothills Council game. Cody Rogers, Derek Robinson and Ryan Allen each drove in two runs for the Tartans.
More baseball: Aidan Loszynski hit a two-run walkoff single up the middle to give Maple Hill a 12-11 win over Hudson in the completion of a suspended game. The Wildcats (11-3) scored five runs in the sixth inning before the game was halted due to darkness. Brody Rogers threw eight pitches in his only inning to earn the win . ... Michael Kennedy struck out 10 and homered to lead Troy to a 6-2 Suburban win over Columbia.
Kennedy gave up five hits and one earned run for the Flying Horses (9-4, 7-4) . ... Jake Sparks pitched a completegame three-hitter with 11 strikeouts and hit a two-run home run to lead Hoosick Falls to an 8-1 win over Waterford . ... Logan Smith’s no-hit bid was broken up with one out in the seventh, but he allowed only two hits in leading Queensbury to a 5-2 win over Schuylerville. Adrian Caron came on in relief and induced a game-ending double play. Alex Coombes put the Spartans ahead for good with a two-out two-run single in the fifth.
Boys’ lacrosse: Andrew Esposito scored with 1:54 left in the third overtime to give Lansingburgh a 6-5 win over Catholic Central. Octavian Rescott and Knathane Marble both scored their first varsity goals in the win. Nick Dow made 21 saves, six in overtime.
