Actor known for “Harry Potter” to play comic singer

It’s time for Daniel Radcliffe to get weird.

The English actor stars as the titular parody song artist in the first trailer for “Weird: The Al Yankovic

Story,” which came out Tuesday.

The new promo shows Radcliffe embodying Weird Al with big glasses, curly hair and a mustache as the song “Like A Surgeon” plays in the background.

“What can I say?” Radcliffe says as the character. “I’m full of surprises.”

Weird Al, who has won five Grammys and released four gold records in his career, is known for comedy songs that spoof major hits. His tracks include “Yoda,” which parodies “Lola” by the Kinks; “Eat

It,” a spoof of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”; and “Smells Like Nirvana,” which pokes fun at Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

The new biopic hits theaters this fall.

“Weird” also stars Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna and Rainn Wilson as radio broadcaster Dr. Demento.

Radcliffe rose to fame starring as the main hero in the “Harry Potter” film series, and more recently portrayed the villain in this year’s adventure-comedy “The Lost City.”
