This weekend marks Texas’ only scheduled trip to Yankee Stadium this season.
New York leads the majors with an 18-7 record after its 11-game winning streak was snapped Wednesday night with a 2-1 loss in Toronto. The Rangers are 10-14, but have a seasonbest four-game winning streak after taking both games in their interleague series at Philadelphia.
The teams didn’t immediately announce their pitching plans for Saturday. Gerrit Cole (2-0, 3.00 ERA) was scheduled to start for New York on Friday night against Glenn Otto (1-0, 2.89), a former Yankees farmhand who was traded to Texas in a deal for slugger Joey Gallo last July.
There’s no rush to make up the Mets-phillies in Philadelphia because they play each other plenty. They’ll catch up on Aug. 20 as part of a split-admission doubleheader.
The opener will begin at 1:05 p.m., with the originally scheduled game still set for 7:15 p.m.
Max Scherzer (4-0, 2.61 ERA) had been slated to pitch for the first-place Mets, who stunned Philadelphia by rallying for seven runs in the ninth inning of an 8-7 victory in the series opener Thursday night.
Kyle Gibson (2-1, 2.93) was lined up to start for the Phillies, who have lost five of six.
The Blue Jays- Guardians in Cleveland and Dodgers-cubs at Wrigley Field are scheduled for split doubleheaders Saturday. It’s supposed to be clear and chilly in those cities for the twinbills. This will be the third doubleheader of the season for Jose Ramirez and the Guardians at Progressive Field.
NL Central rivals Pittsburgh and Cincinnati will make up the game in July.
