Saints fall in MAAC semifinals

Fairfield ended Siena’s season after topping the Saints 10-8 in the MAAC women’s lacrosse semifinals Friday at Hickey Field.

Kelly Horning led the fourth-seeded Stags with four goals while Amanda Kozak scored two goals. Kozak’s second goal with 2:30 remaining halted a rally by Siena.

No. 2 Siena trailed 9-6 with seven minutes left, but Nicole Mcneely and Mary Soures scored backto-back goals to pull the Saints within a goal with 4:34 on the clock.

Mcneely led Siena (10-8) with three goals, while Soures, the team’s leading scorer during the season with 61 goals, was held to the one goal.

Fairfield led in shots on goal (21-17), but the Saints had a 20-19 edge on ground balls.

The game was tied three times and Siena led twice, but Fairfield scored four straight goals in the third quarter to take the lead for good.

Horning scored twice in the Stags run.

Olivia Conquest made nines saves for Fairfield (12-6) while Ally Mervine made 11 stops for the Saints.
