RODGER’S QUICK TAKE

-

Nestor Cortez is quickly becoming a Yankee favorite, and why not? He’s been Nasty on the mound so far this season, and fans can relate because Cortez is a regular guy with little or no ego. Cortez was a 36th-round pick who grinded his way into the starting rotation and he’s been the Yankees’ best pitcher. He took a no-hitter into the eighth inning on Monday, and you get the feeling it won’t be the last time he flirts with a no-hitter. You can argue Cortez is one of the best pitchers in baseball. Rodger Wyland is the sports director for Newschannel 13. Listen to him weekdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on WTMM (104.5 FM, “The Team”).
