Lynch’s slam lifts Dutchmen to a win

- Sports staff

Colin Lynch connected on a grand slam in the sixth inning, and Guilderland rallied to top Columbia 15-8 in a Suburban Council baseball clash in East Greenbush.

Trailing 7-6 and with the bases loaded and no outs, Lynch lofted the 2-1 pitch from Blue Devils reliever Tyler Murray over the right-field wall, scoring Nick Plue, Aidan Chrysler and Dan Keaney.

The Dutchmen opened the scoring in the first when Plue scored on a groundout by Keaney.

The Blue Devils responded with two runs in the bottom of the third and then four runs with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. The rally started with an RBI single from Carter Albano that scored Korin Laurilla.

A grounder to second by Jack Bennett was mishandled by Luke Randio, scoring Laurilla and Albano.

After advancing to second on an error and then stealing third, Bennett came home on single by Jacob Skarlis to take a 7-5 lead before the Dutchmen (14-3, 13-1 league) started a rally.

Liam Teague hit a three-run home run for the Dutchmen in the seventh. Ty Santabarbara gave up four earned runs over six innings.

More baseball: Xavier Garcia came on relief with his team down 3-2, and held Burnt Hills-ballston Lake to one hit as Saratoga rallied for a 5-3 Suburban Council victory. Luke Zoller and John Wells homered for Burnt Hills.

Softball: Kate Ackerman pitched a complete game, giving up two earned runs and striking out five as Maple Hill rallied for an 8-7 win over Cairo-athens in a Patroon Conference matchup.
