Attorney hurt in car crash
A local attorney was hospitalized Sunday after a one-car crash on Route 85 near Heldervue Avenue, Sheriff Craig Apple said.
Apple said that around 8:30 p.m., Brian Devane drove his car off the road, striking a tree. The vehicle continued off the road and rolled over, trapping Devane inside. He was extricated from the vehicle and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Apple said investigators are still looking into the crash. He added that they believe speed was a factor and that they were waiting for the results of a blood test.
Devane has handled several notable cases over the years. He represented a man who embezzled $203,000 from the Brighter Choice Foundation and a 94-year-old woman who reached a $225,000 settlement after she was injured at a polling place in Albany County. In 2007, he also represented the owners of an Orlando, Fla., pharmacy that was the target of a steroid distribution investigation based in Albany County.
